Solidarity rally with European and African dairy farmers

Invitation to press conference and symbolic rally on 10 April in Brussels

Dear representative of the press,

For the first time ever, there is going to be a solidarity rally with both European and African dairy farmers.

On 10 April, an important symbolic action with tractors will take place in front of the Council of the European Union. Together with fellow farmers from Mali, Burkina Faso, Senegal, Mauritania, the Chad and Niger, European producers are going to take a stand: We want to clearly show EU policy-makers how European overproduction affects the local dairy sector in West Africa.

We call for sustainable milk production in Europe and Africa, so that farmers on both continents can earn a living from their work.

The European Milk Board (EMB) has planned this action together with development organisations Oxfam, SOS Faim and Veterinarians Without Borders.

We would therefore like to invite you to the following event on 10 April:

10:00am         Press conference

In the presence of: Members of the EMB Executive Committee as well as representatives from Africa

Venue: Residence Palace, Room Maelbeek (ground floor), Rue de la Loi 155, 1040 Brussels

11:00am         Symbolic action

In the presence of: Dairy farmer delegations from all parts of Europe and Africa, representatives of OXFAM, SOS Faim and Veterinarians Without Borders

Venue: Rue de la Loi, 1040 Brussels (between the Schuman roundabout and the Parc du Cinquantenaire, see map here).

This action has been organised as part of an African delegation's visit to Europe. Members of the press can interview the African colleagues and even accompany them to a number of events, including a visit to a cheese dairy and a dairy farm in Herve, Belgium.

If you would like to participate, please let us know by 2 April by writing to us at office@europeanmilkboard.org or calling us on +32 (0)2 808 1935.

We look forward to seeing you at the events.
