Press invitation: The milk crisis is far from over

There is still a lot to do before we have a stable market!

Dear media representatives,

Europe’s dairy farmers are still in the thick of the crisis. Despite slight price increases, there is still a chronic gap between revenue from milk and the costs of production. Certainly the voluntary supply restraint stimulated throughout Europe by the EU Commission has put a temporary brake on the price collapse. But what must now be done to stabilise the sector in the long term? What role should policy-makers play, and how must milk producers take responsibility? The Executive Committee of the European Milk Board will state its position on these questions at Green Week in Berlin.

You are invited to the press conference on Thursday, 19 January 2017,

at 14:00 hours at the trade fair site

Venue: hall 6.3 – Press Centre – room A – Messedamm 22 – D-14055 Berlin

We look forward to seeing you there.

Belgian farm-gate milk price covers only 65 percent of production costs

(Brussels/Battice, 02.09.2017): A recent cost study shows that the costs of milk production in Belgium in 2016 were 41.37 cents/kg. As the farm-gate prices for milk were only 26.70 cents, this means only 65% of production costs were covered in 2016. The study, jointly commissioned by the European Milk Board (EMB) and the...
