Press invitation: Farmers' manifestation in Strasbourg 14/7/09
Thousands of farmers, with tractors and cows, will gather in front of the European Parliament in Strasbourg on July 14th.
Milk producers and other farmers and citizens from Europe will be there to question the members of the Parliament on the need for changing the agriculture policy.
3 caravans started already last Monday from three French regions (Bretagne, Normandie, Auvergne) and, after many meetings across France, will arrive on Monday evening July 13th in Strasbourg. On July 14th 2009 milk producers mainly from France, Germany, Belgium, Luxemburg, The Netherlands, Switzerland, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Czech Republic, Austria will be there.
The much too low milk price during months jeopardizes more and more dairy farms. Politicians should intervene, firstly by decreasing milk production and then orientating the policy of agriculture towards balanced markets and so assure farm prices covering then production costs (please find attached our call for the gathering).
A press conference will take place at Place de Haguenau at 9h30 (information about exact place follows), where the demonstration starts (start at 10h30- arrival at EP at 12h00). Interviews will be possible with representatives of ECVC and EMB from 10 different countries.
At 13:00 MEPs will come out to meet the demonstrators. Please see attached the letter we sent to the MEPs.
We hope to meet you at the press conference and the gathering.
Yours sincerely,
Romuald Schaber and René Louail
(EMB President) (ECVC Board)
