Everyday farming and market data clearly show that producing food and profitability have long since ceased to go hand in hand for the majority of farmers. As a result, the EU has lost millions of farms over a matter of years and this trend is set to continue. If market regulation is not put in place to ensure fair prices and more farmers in the EU, the ambitious goals of the Green Deal are interesting on paper but they will not be achieved. There are ways to make farming profitable again, to stop the decline in the number of farms and to stabilise production structures. These elements are tightly intertwined and necessary to ensure farming has a positive impact on our territories, ensuring production levels and practices remain within an environmentally sound and socially fair scope. This event will address these issues and make recommendations on how this can be achieved. Taking dairy production as an example, farmers, policy makers from the European Parliament and European Commission, and representatives from civil society organisations will debate on pragmatic ways to stabilize our agricultural market system to build up the base for a successful Green Deal and to enhance the EU food security and sovereignty. Simultaneous interpretation available into English, German, French and Spanish. |
