21.7.2009, Brussels: Tomorrow Wednesday, the 22/7/2009 the EU-Commission will present the report on the milk market situation demanded by the EU council in June. Today, the 21/7/2009 a representative of the Commission will yet speak about elements of the report to the members of the committee of agriculture of the European Parliament.  Romuald Schaber as president of European Milk Board has been present in this meeting and has commented the report and its propositions. The EMB is grateful to the committee of agriculture for this invitation to speak.

It was very encouraging to hear that below all party limits, EU Parliamentarians underline the necessity to regulate the market. For this the quota system should be used in a more efficient way. Another positive point, seen by Romuald Schaber, Pascal Massol und Sonja Korspeter, was the fact that many voices criticised the politics of the EU-Commission. Different measures as export subsidies or intervention should be stopped. A new policy of agriculture would be needed which goes in a quite different direction, putting sustainable agriculture with decent producer prices and supply security in the center.
