The Good Food March 2012 came to a successful conclusion with demonstrations and events in Brussels today. Real family farming with secure and stable cost-covering prices were among the protestors’ demands.
(Brussels, 19.9.2012) Hundreds of representatives of different social groups gathered in Brussels with dairy farmers from the European Milk Board (EMB), the European umbrella association of dairy farmers’ organisations in Europe, to demonstrate jointly at the end of the Good Food March 2012, once again making their demands for a better food and agriculture policy in Europe loud and clear. This was a successful conclusion to the Good Food March – a bicycle rally to Brussels lasting nearly a month – which gave farmers, the public and young people the unique opportunity to bring their demands directly to the EU institutions.
“The EMB supported and helped organise the Good Food March to ensure that in the current reform of the Common Agricultural Policy real family farming in Europe with secure and stable cost-covering prices for the farmers is not neglected. To this end, the production volume must be adapted to demand in Europe. For us the key to the success is co-operation with groups across the whole social spectrum”, said EMB President Romuald Schaber.
The European Milk Board (EMB) is a European umbrella association of dairy farmers’ organisations. It currently represents 19 organisations from 14 European countries, some 100,000 producers altogether. About 75% of Europe’s milk is produced in the member countries.
