Example – Köhler supports dairy farmers in their fight against low milk prices
Horst Köhler, Federal President of Germany has declared his solidarity to german dairy farmers. It seems as if the farmers do not discuss at eye level with the industry and that even the potentials of corporate dairies are not exploited. The President supports those who have taken their fortunes in their own hands and who have pointed out the current disastrous circumstances of the dairy sector to the public.
Because of the decline in prices of milk and the existential fear, the dairy farmers had to fight even stronger for their interests, Köhler said in Berlin last Tuesday.
He also supports the concern of the government, which should not return to subsidy policy, which has turned out as a mistake.
He blamed the consumers to always buy the cheapest products. Like this the good work of farmers is not paid adequately and the offer of high quality products won’t exist any longer. The low price must not be the only sales argument. People have to consider this, if they do not want milk to be imported as milk pouder from overseas in future.
Gerd Sonnleitner, president of the conservative farmers’ organisation in Germany said, that in the opinion of families working in the agricultural and forestry sector, politics do not plead for their interests. The most important is the low price. Another problem is that the public does not understand the value of agricultural work. Sonnleitner has the impression that this is the reason for the feeling of agriculture families to be disadvantaged in the public.
