Today, the Walloon Parliament has formally called to prevent the signing of the first transatlantic treaty between the EU and Canada (CETA). The Walloon head of government Paul Magnette had already warned the European Commission before not to ratify the agreement in its present form. The future arbitration mechanism between states and multinationals (ICS) has been one of the contentious issues.
This step could hinder the entry into force oft he trade agreement, already agreed and adopted in 2014 between the European Union and Canada. The agreement is to be approved by the EU-28 member states and the European Parliament.
