This week, thousands of farmers took part in a protest against government policies in Poland. This was the biggest of a range of protests that took place throughout the country in the past three weeks.

Those were the key demands that the protestors addressed to their government:

• Regulations to ensure farmers are compensated for losses caused by the government’s negligent policies towards quotas and trade embargoes

• Protection of land rights against land-grabs by foreign companies

• Legalization of direct sales of farm produce

• Ban of the cultivation and sale of Genetically Modified Organisms in Poland.
