Background

The current discussions all over Europe about the Common Agricultural Policy that were initiated by Dacian Ciolo?, European Commissioner for Agriculture, have shown that agriculture, rural areas and security of supply are deemed important by the European citizens. They demand fair conditions of competition for producers. The agricultural policy should create appropriate conditions. The European citizens thus support the demands of milk producers in Europe for a fair dairy policy. The European milk producers will express the opinion of the civil society on October 20th, 2010 and will demonstrate with hundreds of tractors in front of the European Parliament.

The study “The future of the dairy market: less is more” that will be presented on October 20th, 2010 as well shall contribute to the political discussion on the future of the dairy market: It provides answers to questions such as:

- Are the market concepts successful?

- Who benefits from these systems?
