APLI: French dairy farmers call on German colleagues to show solidarity

APLI: Press Information

President Massol: “We caught on. Now let’s grasp our joint opportunity.”

The President of the French “Association of Independent Milk Producers” (Association des Producteurs de Lait Independants), Pascal Massol, turned to the German colleagues in an open letter today. “After four days of strike I can report that already 50 per cent of the French milk producers are now actively taking part. The months of work at the grass roots level have paid off. This level of mobilisation far exceeds our expectations and is becoming even stronger day by day”, the milk producer from the Aveyron region writes.

“That is the lesson we learned from the first European milk strike, of which many of us first heard when it was over. We caught on. And we promised Europe it would be different the next time. Now the time has come for us to invite every milk producer in Europe not to repeat the mistake we made last year, but instead to grasp the joint opportunity together now”, Pascal Massol continues in his letter.

Massol makes a direct appeal to his German colleagues: “I call on my colleagues in Germany in particular to take advantage of this unique opportunity with self-assurance and great confidence. You too now hold the key for our shared historic success. We are on the verge of a breakthrough into a new era, in which farmers can no longer be played off against one another, but instead use their strength positively for the benefit of the whole populace. For a Europe with a future,” concludes the President of the French APLI.
