Milk production is expected to increase significantly across the EU in the years following the removal of the quota system, but in 2015, an increase of just 1% is expected, according to the Commission’s latest short-term market outlook. The supply increase is expected to be higher in countries seeing an expansion of the dairy herd such as Ireland (+4.2%), the Netherlands (+0.8%) and Germany (+0.7%). Production of skimmed milk powder (SMP) and whole milk powder (WMP) – which climbed by 22,5% and 5,4% last year, respectively – is expected to rise further this year.
