Dear representatives of the media,
Because of too high milk volumes on the market, milk prices have remained at rock bottom for months now. Farmers' protests and thus the pressure on political decision-makers in Europe have been increasing substantially. When EU ministers of agriculture will talk about the dairy crisis on 14th March, they have to finally take forward an instrument to limit the current overproduction.
On 14th March 2016 at 10.30 am the European Milk Board's Executive Committee is going to hold a press conference on this subject at the International Press Centre in Brussels.
Concretely, the following questions will be answered:
- Why are EU-wide voluntary production cuts by means of the Market Responsibility Programme (MRP) particularly suited to reduce harmful overproduction?
- Which measures are, on the other hand, not efficient?
- What to think of the farmers' protests against the major crises which are taking place everywhere in Europe?
We cordially invite you to this press conference and are looking forward to welcoming you there.
